Why I Hate Teaching

Posted by inspir3d on August 27, 2006

Tharman Shanmugaratnam, MOE – listen hard, and listen well. Things have got to change.

“At lunch time the other day, someone commented that it’s amazing how some teachers can survive teaching for, like, 20 years. Ah yes, many of my more senior teachers have often reminisced wistfully about the good ol’ 90’s, when teaching was more fun, more humane, and more satisfying. The late 90’s was when the evil dynasty began and now teaching is more of mindless slogging and frenzied labouring for purposes that few could articulate convincingly anymore.

I’m not a new teacher, neither am I a veteran. I’m a late entrant into the teaching profession (a mid-life crisis survivor so to speak). But with Teachers’ Day round the corner, I find myself reflecting on my job again and it really is not difficult to come up with a list of Why I Hate Teaching.” …more (Trisha Reloaded)

On the overall, the speech by the PM, which covered a whole gamut of issues, was insightful, intelligent and confidence-inspiring. Yet, though perhaps I am nitpicking here, it seems to me, in contrast with the speeches of previous years, there was a significant lack of concrete policy proposals in this year’s speech.” …more (Free Thinker)
