Auditor General’s Report: Millions Missing

Posted by intellisg on June 1, 2007

By request, this is a special announcement for TOC (The Online Citizen)

TOC (The Online Citizen) recently reproduced in full the Public Accounts Committee convened by Parliament to scrutinize irregularities highlighted by the Auditor General’s report for financial year 05-06. It gave few concrete figures to highlight the irregularities it was pointing out.

TOC tracked down a copy of the original AGO report, which gives a far more comprehensive overview of the scope of the irregularities. This is reproduced in full. We hope that members of the public will step forward to scrutinize the report and ask the necessary questions of our public servants.

In light of the limited scope of the Auditor-General’s report, TOC believes that the public deserves a more thorough audit of its public offices. Further, action needs to be taken to examine why these mistakes occurred in the first place: were there cases of corruption involved, or was it just incompetence? What were the consequences of these multi-million dollar mistakes?

This report can either be swept under the carpet to the further detriment of the credibility of the media and our government, or it can serve as a reference point for a new era in government transparency and accountability. We hope the latter will prevail.

Remember what NKF says after it is discovered misusing public fund ?

It says only minimum amount is misused ! Now, the same trick is used for EDB. Search and dig further into their shitty department, and probably 6.5 millions end up as 65 millions ! …
Miss Auditor, you are talking about 46years, not 4 years !
I think this 6.5 m refer to 1 year checking only.

“We hope the latter will prevail”, unquote. I wish the ‘hope’ will not be an eternal one.

  3. Hi IS,

Thank you for highlighting our report. It’s very much appreciated.. 🙂

The auditor is a “Mr” – Mr Lim Soo Ping, in fact.. 🙂

I found the Sentosa Cove case pretty disturbing. TOC: since you guys are on this case, do you have the resources to dig out who that sole bidder who won all the prime parcels of land at undervalued prices is? I won’t be surprised if politically well connected people have significant interests in it.

anyway. singapore is really going to the dogs. this government is barely tolerable for 2 things:
    1. ensure we are materially well off
    2. squeaky clean
i am trying to get married now and can barely afford to get a hdb flat. and now it is clear that they are not a squeaky clean government. so why the hell do we still put up with their bullshit and million dollar do-nothing prata-man president who wasn’t elected?

  6. Dear Peeved,

I think we’ll leave it at that. If there’s anything “inappropriate” in that area, I’m sure the AG would have uncovered it. 🙂

the answer we have to put up with gov’s bullshit is that we have no choice unless we leave Singapore. Gov want us to know that we have no choice, that’s why I accept I have no choice but working hard to get out of this elite uncaring authorian choiceless countries.

It is corruption at its best, the legalised corruption is the most powerful form of corruption because the citizen can’t do anything about it.

The more people blog against the gov, the more power the gov has because once gov realize that blogging has little impact on it, all the more it do what it want as usual !

Everyone know how rubbish and bullshit this gov is, and blogging expose them even more. That’s why many concerned and talented citizen want to leave Singapore. Those who stay either love their country too much, or Singapore make money for them. I don’t want to make money for gahmen, if I want to, I will make hell money for them !
